I want you to be among the first to know: I just launched a new show to explain where your tax dollars are going.
It’s called Show Me the Money, and the first episode is live now. Every episode, I’m going to break down where South Carolina’s tax dollars actually go and whether you’re getting what you paid for.
Here’s why I’m starting with this. The Comptroller General’s office has two jobs. The first is accountant. The second is watchdog. Too many people treat it like the office is just there to keep the books and stay quiet. I don’t think that’s good enough and in this first episode I explain why the office has to be more than a passive bookkeeper and how I plan to turn it into an active taxpayer watchdog.
South Carolina publishes thousands of pages of financial reports every year. Almost nobody reads them. I do.
I follow the money, and I explain what I find in plain English, the kind of English you don’t need a law degree or a lobbyist to understand.
That’s the whole point of this show. Open the books. Follow the money. Say it straight.
I’m going to keep opening the books, protecting your tax dollars and working to make South Carolina the best financially run state in America.
Thanks for being with me on this.
